Mark’s Lake Ohrid Adventure

I flew from Manchester with TUI Airways at 06:50 am for a 3.5-hour flight. Check-in and passport control were quiet at that time in the morning. I arrived at Ohrid Airport at 11 am, where the TUI rep met me. We were transferred to the 4-star Unique Resort & Spa, a 30-minute journey. The hotel is a short walk to the Lakefront.

We then went to St. Sofija Restaurant in the centre of Lake Ohrid and had a walking tour of the city.

After that, we went to Bacchus Wine Bar, which offers a wine-tasting experience for 25 Euros. In the evening, we met for a meal at the Hotel Restaurant.

Breakfast was served between 7:00 am and 9:00 am and featured a good selection of cereals, cooked meats, bread, and hot breakfast options.

We walked to the Lakefront to pick up our Catamaran for a tour to St. Naum; the journey to St Naum took approx. 45 minutes with a cost of 40 Euros, which included a tour of the St. Naum Monastery, lunch at Ostrovo Restaurant and a rowing boat trip on the St Naum Springs.

We left St Naum around 3 pm for the Catamaran journey back.

We decided to eat out, and our host, Irena from KTM Voyages, arranged a meal at her husband's Restaurant. A 2-course meal with wine cost €20!

After Breakfast, we went to visit the Bacchus Apartments, Old City House, and Upper Gate Apartments.

The Bacchus apartments are centrally located and sit in the heart of the old town, surrounded by a variety of shops, bars, and restaurants. Each apartment is cleaned weekly and includes Breakfast. The building has three floors and no lift, so please note that access is via stairs only. As a special touch, guests receive two complimentary bottles of wine courtesy of the wine bar that owns the property.

The Old City House Apartments are located approximately 300 meters from the town centre; they sit on a slight incline, so they may not be suitable for wheelchair users. They are fully equipped but quite compact, offering a cosy stay across two floors with no lift. Housekeeping is provided once a week.

The Upper Gate Apartments offer a spacious three-bedroom unit located on the second floor, accessible via stairs at the rear of the building. A parking space is available; however, please note that it is situated up a steep incline. The town centre is approximately a 10 to 15 minute walk downhill. A small shop and a restaurant are conveniently located nearby. Breakfast is included, and the apartment is cleaned once per week. This accommodation is ideal for large families or groups of friends.

GENERAL COMMENTS AND TIPS:

The local currency is the Macedonian Denar, which isn't available for exchange before travel. However, the Euro is widely accepted.

I had excellent service with TUI. All flights were on time, and it was cashless on board.

BEST EXPERIENCE FROM THE TRIP?

One of my best experiences was the catamaran trip to St. Naum. The journey itself was relaxing, with interesting places highlighted along the way. Once in St. Naum, you can explore a bit of history by visiting the monastery, then unwind on the lovely beach or enjoy a meal at one of the nearby restaurants.
